The Gütersloh Half Marathon

Fun Run For All... 

This year’s event will take place on Saturday 8th May 2010 and promises to be a competitive day for the athlete and a fun filled day for the whole family...Not Just A Run!

This annual event continues to grow in stature year by year, 2010 its fifth anniversary will be no different.  The day will offer various entertainment and attractions creating a village fete atmosphere.  For those less inclined to enter the main event why not try the 10km Fun Run or the families 3Km Fun Run.  Alternatively just come and enjoy the day and support the runners/walkers as they cross the finish line.

Remember this day is designed for everyone...Why not make it a family day out, enter the fun run and enjoy the entertainment and static displays.

All participants will receive a medal on completion of each event and those who are placed according to each event category will receive a trophy

Please remember this is a non-profit making event, as such all proceeds will be donated to charity.  In particular this year’s main beneficiaries will be the ‘Forces Children’s Trust’ and the Gütersloher Suppenkuche .  Why not help us to raise further funds and generate your own sponsorship.  For more information click the following link:

 You can register your entry through this website or on the day from 0800 hours in the morning.

The main race will begin at 1100 hours followed shortly after by the start guns for 10 km Fun Run, the Schools Challenge Trophy and 3 km Fun Run. The event is open to all military and civilian components of both the British and German national communities.

Half Marathon Categories

Competitors can enter the Half Marathon in the following categories, winners and runners up of each category will receive a trophy:

·         Individual Male - Male runners under the age of 40.

·         Individual Female - Female runners under the age of 40.

·         Veteran Male - Male runners over the age of 40.

·         Veteran Female - Female runners over the age of 40.

·         Best Male Civilian - Civilian nationals only.

·         Best Female Civilian - Civilian nationals only.  

10 Km Fun Run Categories

Competitors achieving first place in the 10 km Fun Run will receive a trophy according to the following categories:

·         First Placed Male

·         First Placed Female

·         First Placed Male Youth (15 years and under)

·         First Placed Female Youth (15 years and under)

3 Km Fun Run Categories

Entries achieving first place in the 3 Km Fun Run will receive a trophy according to the following categories:

·         First Place Boy (between ages 8 and 12)

·         First Placed Girl (between ages 8 and 12)

·         First Placed Boy (between ages 5 and 7)

·         First Placed Girl (between ages 5 and 7)

Entrance Fee           

The individual entrance fee will for each event will be as follows

·         Half Marathon             -           €10.00

·         10 Km Fun Run          -           €8.00

·         3 Km Fun Run            -           €5.00

On completion of each event all entrants will receive a commemorative medal.  All remaining proceeds after relative costs will be donated to our chosen charities.

Information Leaflet

An information sheet containing the confirmed timings and other useful information will be sent to units/entrants on receipt of confirmed entrance forms and fees.

Entertainment

A number of concurrent activities in and around the main arena will be established for participants, spectators and their families.  Activities will include side stalls, static displays, food and beverage stalls, and bouncy castles etc. 

Car Parking

A designated car parking area will be provided for all competitors and spectators travelling by car to the event.  The car parking area will be signposted on all main approach roads to Princess Royal Barracks.

Toilets & Shower Facilities

Toilet and shower facilities will be provided at the garrison gymnasium.  In addition, there will be portable toilets placed around the main arena.

Changing & Baggage Storage Area

A separate male and female changing area and supervised baggage storage area will be provided.  All competitors are advised not to bring valuable items or equipment to the event. The Event Manager and coordinating staff will not be held responsible for any losses to an individual’s personal property. 

Medical Cover

Medical cover for minor injuries will be provided at the main arena and throughout the route.  Any serious injuries sustained by entitled personnel will be treated by the medical centre on Princess Royal Barracks.  German nationals will be treated by ‘112’ facilities coordinated through Event Control.

Insurance Cover

Civilian and dependant entries are strongly advised to ensure they have third party liability insurance before entering the event.

Accommodation

Due to the high population levels in Princess Royal Barracks, there is limited facility to book accommodation for this event.  You are advise to direct any request to the Garrison Quartermaster.
